Kit&Arran are the cis/ trans writer/director duo you never knew you needed in your life.
Their work is informed by their very different backgrounds. Arran has twenty years of experience in the film industry directing narrative features and music videos for major labels. Kit comes from a background of award-winning writing and directing for theatre, with a particular passion for honing performance.
As a trans and cis male duo, their work often investigates and critiques masculinity, identity and the normative structures that so often go unquestioned. Kit & Arran’s first co-written/directed feature, KING BABY, had its world premiere at International Film Festival Rotterdam 2024 before playing New Horizons and Edinburgh International Film Festival.
KIT REDSTONE
Kit’s play Passengers, won The Lustrum Award at Summerhall and has been published by Oberon Books.
His show Testosterone won The Pleasance Indie Award for Best Theatre Show and the Highly Commended Award at Vaults Festival. It was selected by the British Council for the Edinburgh Showcase and shortlisted for The Samuel Beckett Award, The Peter Brook Award and The Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award.
The Word Was God was a commission from Schauspielhaus Graz in Austria where it premiered to critical acclaim. The text is represented by Felix Bloch Erben. A German translation was performed at the prestigious Oldenburg State Theatre.
Kit is the Artistic Director of Vacuum Theatre -a cross-disciplinary troupe making cutting edge ensemble theatre. He also works freelance and collaborates as a writer and director with other companies and practitioners around the world - showing and developing work in Greece, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Venezuela, Australia, Canada and Brazil.
Kit is a Ted X speaker, has presented at Women of The World Festival in Rio De Janeiro, Queen Mary University, Transarte Festival, Rio and British Council, Venezuela.
ARRAN SHEARING
Arran’s first feature film, ‘Forgotten Man’, premiered at Cinequest in 2017 and went on to screen at over twenty festivals worldwide, winning multiple awards, including Best Film at the Sydney Independent Film Festival, Best Performance at the New York Independent Film Festival, and the Leo Award for Cinematography, among others. Forgotten Man is distributed by Flix Premiere.
Arran had previously directed award-winning and Vimeo Staff Pick music videos for independent and major labels alike, for artists including Mac Demarco, Felix Da Housecat, K-OS, and Peter Gregson.
With a background from Panavision and Technicolor Arran formerly served as a technical consultant to the British Film Institute and has worked as a Libra Remote Head Technician on some of the largest productions in the world, including ‘Star Wars IX’, ‘House of the Dragon’, and ‘The Crown’.
Arran is a member of both the Directors Guild of Canada and The International Cinematographers Guild. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Canadian Film Centre Director’s Lab.
